AU-1 Corsair

Hasegawa's 1/48 scale AU-1 Corsair is available online from Squadron.com

Description

Enclosed are some shots of my latest model. It is the Hasegawa AU-1.

I like this model, but I think the kit is really a compromise. It takes a little effort to make this thing look right.

First off, I built an armored seat and added armrests for the cockpit. I also added the switch panels to the right and left of the gunsight on the instrument panel coaming. No further effort was expended here.

I have seen my share of these late Corsairs built up and I find that if you are not careful, you'll end up with a model where the dihedral is all screwed up. I actually added a 10 thou wedge to splay the fuselage enough to where it would fit properly to the lower wing center section. Doing this seemed to cure any flat dihedral.

One other thing I did was to cut open the oil cooler waste gate on the lower wing center section. I added sides to it and glued it in an open position.

Model Master Gull Gray over Insignia White are the main colors I used.

I have many Corsairs and plan on building all the sub-variants before too long. I will probably do the -7 next
