Here is Mick Evans' 1/48 scale Australian CAC
CA-27 Avon Sabre built using the comprehensive Red Roo conversion
set.
Although the F-86 Sabre and the Avon Sabre look
superficially similar, the installation of the Rolls Royce Avon
required a major redesign of the fuselage. In fact, only about 40%
of the fuselage structure was common to both the F-86 and CA-27
Sabres.
The Red Roo conversion caters for these
differences by supplying five low-pressure injection moulded plastic
parts comprising an entirely new fuselage and intake. This
conversion may be applied to either the Hasegawa or Academy 1/48
scale F-86 Sabre kits, but there is less work involved in adapting
the new fuselage to the Hasegawa kit.
The set also includes decals for seven
different aircraft - four RAAF and three Malaysian. The Malaysian
Air Force operated the Avon Sabres after they had left RAAF service.
