F4U-1 Corsair

F4U-1 Corsair

Tamiya's 1/48 scale F4U-1 Corsair is available online from Squadron

Description

After receiving a copy of Bruno Pautigny's recent Corsair book for Christmas I decided that the Corsair was a perfect subject to try out some new weathering ideas.

The model is Tamiya's F4U-1 "birdcage" and was built mostly straight from the box with the exception of a few Eduard bits and True Details resin wheels.

The model was painted using Tamiya and Gunze acrylics with the new Iwata Custom Micron C-Plus.

The model's weathering was influenced by the colour photo on page 44 showing an F4U being rearmed covered in lovely filth and dust.

Weathering consisted of my 'dual diffusion' method using post shading and fading. Chips were from a silver pencil and the dust so commonly seen on these Corsairs was achieved using water mixed with pastel powder. Decals were from the kit.
