Tamiya's
1/48 scale Dewoitine D.520 "Special Edition" is available online from Squadron
Here is my build of the beautiful little 1/48 scale
Tamiya D.520 kit.
I wanted to build something quick and easy for the
Tamiyacon competition in Southern California so, between grading papers
and getting my kids ready for bed at night, I was able to finish this
little guy in about two and half weeks!
The kit went together without any fuss, as is
usually the case with Tamiya kits. I did decide to spruce up the cockpit
with the addition of various pieces from an Eduard photoetch fret.
Additionally, I added tires from True Details, Moskit exhausts and oil
filler tube.
The only other add-ons were cut syringe tubing for
the radiator door actuators, and some fine gauge solder for the gunsight
brace.
Painting involved pre-shading with burnt umber
followed by some post-shading with various tints of the surface colors
to give the aircraft a bit of depth. Chipping was accomplished with a
Berol silver pencil, quite a handy little tool.
The decals are from a limited release version of
the kits I saw at the local hobby store.
All in all, the Dewoitine was a fun little build.
