Here is another painting from the Aussie Spitfire
Project that I have been working on, “Rhapsody in Red” 24” x 36” oil on
canvas.
This painting features F/O Lysle Roberts flying “Rhapsody in Red” his
personally assigned Spitfire MkVIII ZP-R, A58-458 over Darwin’s Mindil
Beach in mid 1944.

Initially Lysle flew Mk Vb Spitfires with 457
Squadron before converting to the MkVIII.
In addition to Spitfires Lysle also flew P-40
Kittyhawks and P-51 Mustangs with the RAAF during WWII. I have also
included a period photo of Lysle in the cockpit and a detail of the
Pin-Up nose art.
