Yak-1

Accurate Miniatures' 1/48 scale Yak-1 is available online from Squadron.com

Description

Here is my 1/48 scale Yak-1 from Accurate Miniatures.

The model is depicted in markings of Lydia Litvak of the 73 IAP circa 1943.

The kit is essentially built out of the box with a few minor modifications. These included the addition of the fuel gauges (taken from the VVS Modelling Site and printed on a laser printer) and undercarriage position indicators on the upper wing surface.

The kit canopy was replaced with the Squadron vac canopy. The wing leading edge light was made from a piece of clear sprue sanded to shape and polished since I found the clear part provided in the kit unacceptable. The seat harness decals was applied to aluminium foil, cut and position on the seat to look more realistic.

The model has been painted using Model Master, Tamiya and Humbrol paints applied with Aztek A470 airbrush.

I followed the camouflage pattern shown in one of Erik Pilawskii's articles pertaining to Yak-1 camouflage and markings (used to be available from the VVS Modelling webpage).

Weathering was accomplished with the combination of pre- and post-shading and dry pastels.
