Introduction

Steve Palffy has built Eastern Express's 1/72 scale GAZ Soviet Field Car almost straight from the box.

This model is tiny!

The results are terrific, but Steve commented that the surface of the plastic was quite rough and the fit was challenging. On the other hand, detail was extremely good in many areas. He was especially impressed with the wheels and tyres.

The only real modification was hollowing out the headlamps and painting the recess silver.

The model was painted with Tamiya acrylics using an Iwata airbrush. The Russian Green was achieved with a base coat of Tamiya Olive Green, followed by selective shading with Deep Green, and finally highlighting the centre of panels with a green shade lightened using XF-4 Yellow Green.

Weathering was by airbrushing thinned acrylic paints; and also the precise application of a wash of Raw Umber oil paint in crevices and recesses.
