I spent a pleasant afternoon today at the 2003 NSW Scale Model
Competition and Expo, hosted as usual by the Illawarra Plastic
The two-day competition is open to all modellers, and is held in a
large and bright Community Centre in Koonawarra, south of Wollongong
and about 100km south of Sydney.
The Expo was well attended and the standard of competion entries
was high. It was also nice to see displays of models and militaria in
addition to the kits in competition.
Plenty of traders were also on hand, including Firestorm Models
with their latest figure and accessory releases. Firestorm's products
are sold worldwide and distributed in the USA by VLS, but David is
based in the Illawarra. A swap and sell table was the subject of a
frenzy as modellers snapped up bargains at crazy prices. At least that
is what I was told by a few happy attendees who had gotten to the
goodies early enough!
These photos were taken between conversations and are not meant to
be representative of all the models present. However, there was a good
variety of subject matter and scales, including aircraft, armour,
ships, submarines, figures, cars and more.
The photos are taken with a Nikon Coolpix 5700 camera using the
available light and a tripod.
