Description

Here is my Vought OS2U-3 Kingfisher, based on the USS Arizona on December 7, 1941.

This model started as the 1/48 scale Monogram kit, but then the aftermarket genies took over. Additions to the Monogram kit were as follows:

Cutting Edge

  • Engine cowl

  • Cockpit set

Falcon Industries

  • Canopy Set

Engines and Things

  • 48010 P&W R-1340 Wasp 9 cylinder engine

Aeromaster

  • Kingfisher Decals

The aftermarket detail sets really make the old Monogram kit into a fantastic model.

The Cutting Edge cockpit is really something, with almost every detail present, whether it is visible or not. The engine cast by Engines and Things was a bit rough and needed some work, but was very accurate.

The Monogram kit was the Hi Tech kit with the etched detail set. Various components of the etched details were used to enhance the kit.

The model was totally re-scribed according to the photos and line drawings in the Squadron Kingfisher in Action and depicts one of the two aircraft assigned to the USS Arizona at the time of the Pearl Harbour bombing.
