Republic P-47D Thunderbolt

Revell's 1/72 scale P-47D Thunderbolt is available online from Squadron.com

Introduction

This is my Revell 1/72 Republic P-47D-30.

I built this kit straight out of the box and it is the first time that I used AlcladII 'Aluminium' to achieve a Natural Metal Finish. It was applied using my Aztek A470 airbrush. I am very pleased with the results.

Alclad II 'Chrome' was applied to the prop spinner and undercarriage legs.

The invasion stripes on wings and fuselage were sprayed using the Aztek airbrush and Humbrol enamels.
I must say that I was very impressed with the staying power of the Alclad II after masking with Tamiya masking tape. It didn't even begin to lift.

The decals are from Eagle Strike, European Thunderbolts Pt.1(set No.72001) and settled down beautifully with Micro Sol.

That said, the checkerboard nose cowling decal was a bit tricky to apply!

The markings are those of Capt. Ben Mayo, 82 FS, 78 FG, 8AF, Dufard, UK, June 1944.

This is the same scheme worn by the P-47D that is based in the UK at Duxford Imperial War Museum and is a regular UK airshow attendee.
