Tamiya's
1/48 scale Spitfire Mk. I is available online from
Squadron.com
This Spitfire PR IF was based on the Tamiya Mk I
Spitfire kit using the Airwaves conversion Set SC48-039. It was a simple
conversion.
The set for the Spitfire PR IF contains two underwing
wing fuel tanks, overwing fuel pump blisters, deepened oil tank for under
the nose, fuselage vertical camera, fuselage fuel tank (behind pilot),
cowl intake on the port side of the engine cowling and 'Blistered' PR
canopy by Falcon.
The conversion set was very well produced, good detail and are easy to add
once the necessary cutting and drilling (very little) has been done, which
is all explained in the instruction sheet.
I found it a refreshing change to make a Spitfire in a colour scheme other
than one in the normal Dark Green/Dark Earth (or Ocean Grey) and the paint
used was some old 'Precision Paints' PRU Blue which I have had for a long
time, but you can get the correct colour from the Xtracolor range.
The model depicts P9358 which was a Mk 1 (PR)
converted to a PR 1F and was operated by No. 1 PRU based at St. Eval in
1941.
If you are interested in Photo Reconnaissance
aircraft or just looking to model a Spitfire in a different role or colour
scheme then this might be one to consider.
